  1. EcoBee Smart Thermostat with Voice Control

Features

As one of the most expensive on this list, does this smart thermostat from EcoBee stand up feature for feature? Here’s what you need to know:

  • Offers great functionality with Alexa voice-controlled smart systems
  • Can easily be installed by the homeowner
  • Also works with applications such as IFFT on Apple devices
  • Can be controlled by voice with Google Assistant, Alexa, and Siri

The Good

This is an excellent buy for anyone who already has the Alexa assistant installed around the home. It works right out of the box with Amazon’s voice-controlled AI units. Even better is that it can integrate with the other main voice-controlled assistants including Siri from Apple and the seemingly ubiquitous Google Assistant.

In short, this makes it a great buy if you want the ultimate in voice-controlled smart thermostats. It’s also a sleek-looking unit that fits in very well with its home surroundings so it won’t stand out.

The Bad

Unfortunately, at over $200, the price is sure to put some people off. Check out our in-depth review of the EcoBee

  1. EcoBee4

Features

Once again from EcoBee, does this one offer the same levels of control at a cheaper price point? Here are the features that you need to know about:

  • Works with Apple’s Siri and Alexa
  • Will integrate with the IFFT application and Apple Homekit
  • Is very easy to self-install and has an excellent included manual
  • Offers a sleek look and a nice top-edge blue LED that glows when activated with Alexa voice control
  • Comes with an attractive 3.5-inch color touch-control screen

The Good

Featuring remote room sensor technology and a slew of advanced features, this is a good buy. It will even allow you to track your electricity usage, which is a good thing in this day and age.

The Bad

Once again, price will be a factor for many people as this is right up at the top. For that, you get a lot of functionality but the price must be a consideration. Unfortunately, the built-in speaker is also lacking in audio quality compared to other models.

  1. Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd Generation)

Features

Nest has been around for a while and was one of the first in the smart device space. Here are the features that you need to know about their third-generation smart thermostat:

  • Integrates with Alexa and Google Assistant voice control out of the box
  • Will also work with the IFT application on smartphones and the Nest system
  • Offers a beautiful design
  • Plays well with other Nest devices in the home

The Good

There is no doubt that Nest has produced a beautiful, sleek-looking smart thermostat. The rounded look and lovely screen will be a delight for anyone who already uses Nest devices and wants more of their vibe around the home.

This device is as smart as other Nest devices, which will make it a no-brainer purchase for any Nest fan. It’s also very easy to install and set up and includes geofencing support. It even has auto-scheduling and auto-away functions so it’s very easy to put into a holiday mode and control from afar with the Nest application on your smartphone.

Overall, this is a very pleasant device with an easy-to-read LED screen and a slew of great features.

The Bad

If you want the best, you’re going to have to pay for it and the Nest is no exception. The name commands a price in this space and this one is going to be a bit too expensive for some homeowners. It also doesn’t feature room sensor technology so functionality is not going to be as advanced as other models.

  1. Honeywell Home T9 Smart Thermostat

Features

Honeywell is a well-known name in the electronics industry but can their smart thermostat stack up? Here are the most important features:

  • Is very easy for homeowners to install by themselves
  • Offers powerful dual-band WiFi functionality
  • Works great with Windows Cortana, Google Assistant, and Amazon Alexa
  • Has powerful long-range sensors to provide extra control around the home

The Good

If you’re a Windows Cortana fan, this is the smart device for you since it works well with it right out of the box. It’s not as nice-looking as the Nest unit but it packs in long-range sensors which means that temperatures can be kept more uniform around the home. If you want to extend functionality even further, you can invest in extra room sensors and they will report back to the T9 and give you a full suite of temperature control in a single unit.

The Bad

While the price is pretty good for most people, this Honeywell doesn’t work with all of the other Honeywell smart devices. We’re not sure why since Nest seems to be able to integrate everything.

If you’re a fan of using the IFFT application, you might want to look at another smart thermostat since this Honeywell unit doesn’t have full functionality with it. Likewise, it doesn’t play nicely with Apple Homekit.

  1. Lux/Geo Wi-Fi Thermostat

Features

Can the cheapest smart device on this list compete? Here are the features worth knowing about:

  • Ease of installation
  • Geofencing features
  • Amazon Alexa integration

The Good

The truth is that most people will be attracted to this unit because of the price. If you already have Alexa in your home and you’re on a budget, this one is worth looking at. It may possibly be a good first buy in this space.

The Bad

Sadly, there are a number of missing features that will strike it off the list for anyone wanting complete control. Even though it integrates with Alexa, it offers no further integration with other services. You won’t even be able to use the popular IFFT application.

Smart home thermostats can give you fantastic control over the heating and cooling in your home. They can also save you money. When deciding on one, make sure that you have a budget in mind and understand how the unit integrates with existing voice control services.
