Best Smart Thermostat for Multiple Zones: Top 4 Recommendations

We reviewed smart thermostats that work for multiple zones available in the marketplace, and narrowed it down to our top four – listed below.
Google Nest Learning Thermostat

Nest Labs brought the first Nest Learning Thermostat to the market in 2011 and Google now own and develop the Nest range. The Google Nest Learning Thermostat is now into it’s 3rd generation and is certainly one of the best smart thermostats out there.
Multiple Zones
Using the Nest app, you can control up to 20 thermostats per home, and up to 3 home locations – plenty of headroom for the average user to set up some zoning in their house.
Key Features
The Nest takes about a week to learn about your timetable and temperature preferences for different times of the day, and then builds a schedule around that learning to optimise the efficiency of your heating and cooling system. Every time you make an adjustment to the current temperature setting, Nest learns from that, identifies patterns, and factors them into the optimal schedule.
Home/Away Assist enables efficient use of energy when you are home or away. With the Nest Learning Thermostat, there are three ways in which this capability can be used
- An occupancy sensor in the thermostat which detects if someone is in the room (and so retains the Home setting)
- A feature in the Nest app that allows you to switch between Home settings and Away settings
- Geofencing linked to your mobile phone tells the Nest app whether you are in the “Home” zone, or outside
Summary
The Nest Learning Thermostat has many other useful features as part of the package – for example, Nest Leaf, which shows you when you are saving energy; True Radiant, which smooths out peaks and troughs in the heating cycle. And finally, according to Google’s numbers, the thermostat’s efficiency savings mean that it pays for itself in energy savings.
Certainly worth a look! Check out Andy Slye’s video below for a walkthrough of installation, and some of the features.

CONS
Honeywell Home T9 Smart Thermostat

If you are looking to find a convenient thermostat that is not as fancy, but allows a reliable performance, then you are in the right place. The Honeywell company is well-known for good customer service and high-quality products, so there’s not much you should worry about.
Review
Right off the bat, we want to mention that this product is compatible with smart home services such as Alexa or Google Home. That, with its auto-updates, you shouldn’t have a hard time adjusting the right temperature according to the time and weather outside. Once you get the product, we suggest you check it for any utility rebates as they can go a long way in terms of saving money on electricity bills.
One of the best things about this model is the number of alerts that it can register related to humidifier pads, air conditioner filters, or extreme temperatures. Much like those mentioned above, you can connect and control this one with your tablet or mobile device. Our main concern is the lack of a proper energy-saving program. Apart from that everything seems to work just fine.
With its flexible programming, you will be able to enjoy auto-scheduling as well as self-shutting-off depending on whether the temperature control is needed at the time or not. We do love this product, but it would be nice if Honeywell incorporated some of the same features of the Emerson into their product.
PROS
- Various Smart features
- Wi-Fi Connectivity
- Automatically shuts itself off
- Compatible with Alexa Voice
CONS
- Lack of energy saving
- Compatibility (heating/cooling systems)
Ecobee Smart Thermostat

The next smart thermostat on our list is this one from Ecobee. It is probably the most innovative and attractive in terms of the design and the number of smart features that it come with.
Review
Because there is not much we can say against this product, we will start from the cons. First of all, it is on the pricier side, so if you are on a budget, you are better off with the Emerson or Honeywell product. Also, given the fact that it is a high-end tech miracle, it should have better customer service than what is currently offered.
Now that we have said that, it is time to review all the great features that come with it. Looking at the SmartSensors, it is incredibly accurate and does a great job both when it comes to energy-saving. They also detect threats such as extreme temperature or unnecessary temperature adjusting. It is compatible with most smart home programs, including Google Home and Apple HomeKit, and it has in-built Alexa, which makes it a thermostat like no other.
Frankly, you will be left without anything to do as this product is based on auto-scheduling and self-programing. Well-made and with a user-friendly interface, the installation process shouldn’t take more than an hour. Overall, you are looking at an efficient and reliable thermostat that will be a superb addition to any smart home!
PROS
- Efficient smart sensors
- Easy to use
- Great energy saving
- Built-in Alexa
- Compatible with Google Home, Apple Kit
CONS
- Pricey for some
- Customer service
MOES Programmable Smart Thermostat

At the end of our list, we offer this convenient and efficient group sharing product that is supported by a 24-month warranty and an efficient customer service.
Review
While the last on our list it certainly doesn’t lack in quality. The first thing that we love about it is the 7-day schedule programming that can be done in four different stages. Now, while the sensors are not as accurate as on the products mentioned above, this one still efficiently detects if there’s a need for temperature adjustments. Also, due to the HVAC system, you can expect to save money on your electricity bills.
Although we agree that the design and the LCD screen are not as fancy as those on the Ecobee or Nest products, this one puts a focus on providing a comfortable atmosphere all year-round. Overall, it is an affordable and reliable product that you can’t go wrong with.
PROS
- Affordable
- Accurate 7-day programming
- User-friendly
- Group sharing
CONS
- Lacks Apple Kit compatibility
- Not as sturdy as could be
